Mastering Your Energy Body

From Anxious and Unmotivated
to Empowered and Energized

The link between thoughts and anxiety

Prolonged feelings of anxiety impact us negatively both in body and spirit.

Anxiety keeps our bodies in a constant state of low-level fear which produces cortisol in our bodies. It limits the possibilities we are aware of and what we are able to envision for ourselves.

In the article How to lessen the impact of anxiety, I shared two strategies you can implement to help you begin to control the impact that anxiety has on your life.

In addition to gaining a body awareness which includes both feelings in the body and actions we take on a daily basis, we want to pay attention to our thoughts.

What we think about others and the world around us, the beliefs we hold about ourselves, and the stories we tell ourselves to help us understand the world around us greatly affect the amount and frequency of anxiety that we feel in our lives.

We know that what we think directly relates to what we feel and to the actions we take. Focusing on our thoughts can be the second layer of awareness that begins to shift our levels of anxiety.

More than likely, your thoughts greatly affected the feeling and sensations that you translate as anxiety. Once you can notice what anxiety feels like in your body, you can begin tracking what exactly caused those feelings.

Our thoughts directly impact our emotions so tracking what we are thinking and which thoughts lead us down a spiral and create anxious feelings is a life-enhancing skill.

Once you can notice which thoughts lead you down the spiral, then you can begin making changes in your thought patterns.

One skill you learn in the Mastering Your Energy Body class is determining the origin of the thought patterns. You can consciously make changes to your thought patterns, however, our thoughts are so automatic that it takes great effort to make the changes with our will alone.

When we engage the energy body to inform what changes we need to make, we find the shift in thought patterns is much easier to maintain.

How to lessen the impact of anxiety

In recent studies, almost 50% of adults reported feeling anxiety regularly.

For many years, I counted myself as part of that 50%. However, knowing that I had anxiety did not give me any ways to deal with it.

In fact, labeling what I was feeling as anxiety ended up not being very helpful.

To understand what we mean when we say “anxiety,” we can start with a definition. We can think of anxiety as “a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome.”

With the global events of the last ten years, everyone has faced uncertain outcomes. Whether it’s the economy or the pandemic, those are events that we know at an individual level we cannot control the outcome.

Many of us worry about our children, feel nervous about our finances, or live with a general feeling of unease, expecting that “the other shoe will drop” at any moment.

So what do we do about anxiety?

Do we just have to learn to live with it?

What would be most helpful is changing the way we think about anxiety so we can focus on what we are able to control?

How does anxiety feel in the body

First, it would be useful to become aware of what anxiety feels like in our bodies. Many common symptoms are a

  • Tightness in the throat
  • inability to think straight
  • Flutter in the chest
  • Weight in the stomach.

Being able to identify what anxiety feels like in the body allows us to start considering what we ARE able to change to affect the embodied sensation we may have become accustomed to.

How does anxiety manifest in our behavior

Second, we can begin to notice what anxiety looks like in our daily behavior. It may be these actions we are taking that directly impact the way we feel.

What is it in your daily life, your daily activities, that contributes to the anxious feeling?

Perhaps you are doing way too much; you are overcommitted and you don’t give yourself time to transition from one activity to the next or you may not give yourself enough time to relax at the end of the day.

You may have the behavior that is common among many. Can you relate to this?

The first thing you do when you wake up is to check your phone, your calendar, and your emails. By the time you get up, you already feel overwhelmed with everything there is to do. This feeling of having too much to do and needing to hurry so that everything can get done escalates throughout the day until we feel exhausted.

During the day, you are so exhausted that you self-medicate or self-soothe. You may turn to the glass of wine, hours of watching television, or endless scrolling on social media. Anything to escape and turn off the mind that has been in a mode of frantic activity since the morning.

How to take control and minimize anxiety

To begin to lessen the anxiety we feel and take control of what we are feeling, we must first become aware of how specifically anxiety manifests in our life.

We can use the strategies of noticing what we are feeling in our body when we feel anxious and noticing what actions we take on a daily basis that contribute to the anxiety.

We cannot control the world outside of us, but the sensation in our body and our daily action are two areas that we can control.

In other articles, I will give you some suggestions you can use to help develop each of these strategies.

Also, many energy body practices can help develop our awareness and help shift our behavior. When we learn to engage and deliberately work with our energy body, we can control the amount of anxiety we feel and how often we feel it. We can notice when the anxious feelings begin to rise and we can do something about it in the moment.

I will be sharing much more about these energy practices in the Mastering Your Energy Body class. Reach out to find out more information about the class.

Finding purpose in your life

Life without clarity of purpose

Most of us can recall times in our lives when we felt unmotivated and without direction. There are a lot of reasons why this happens to us, including relationship changes, adjusting to personal loss or health problems, financial difficulties or life stage transitions like having a new family or adjusting to an empty nest later in life.

Sometimes you are waking up feeling overwhelmed and unenthusiastic about your life with thoughts like : “If only X would happen and I’ll be happier!”. Your life can seem out of your control.

You may find yourself resentful toward family and friends because you’re disappointed in what they have (or haven’t) done for you.

In such situations, we may find ourselves coping in many ways, for example:

  • Escaping through distractions (e.g. watching too much television)
  • Shutting down and zoning out
  • Addictions to numb yourself (e.g. excessive exercise, spending money, too much alcohol)
  • Resigning to the situation (e.g. beliefs like “This is the way life is and there is nothing I can do about it.”)
  • Withdrawing into loneliness

Often you don’t know why you feel this way and you may not even know how to go about finding clarity.

What has happened energetically?

Energy is everywhere. It’s everywhere inside you and all around you. You are energy.

And yet most of us don’t realize it – or at least not to the extent that we can use it to our advantage in our daily lives.

If we are feeling stuck or heavy, it’s probably because our energy is trapped or hijacked by people and things or experiences in the past. From there the downward spiral begins. The more this happens, the more we become disconnected from the true source of our vital life force.

Next thing you know, you are spiraling in thoughts that don’t serve you and spending your precious energy on things that don’t help you achieve your goals or live your best purposeful life.

You have a life force of vital energy that is yours to use however you want. But somewhere along the way, you might have handed over control of it to someone else. You might have been told you weren’t allowed to get angry or be sad or express yourself. You might have been told that you needed to be a certain way in order to belong.

The good news?

Energy can’t be destroyed—it just gets trapped inside. And your vital energy source is still there, waiting for you to claim it back. If you’d like to reconnect with your true source and feel like everything is possible again, we can help you do that. We’ll give you the tools and support you need to take back control of your energy so that it serves YOU and your life purpose.

How can we help?

The skillsets and tools taught in our courses are here to help you clear out what’s getting in the way of your true power: the thoughts that don’t serve you, the pain that’s being held deep inside your body, the exhaustion that comes from being disconnected from yourself and your own vitality.

You will learn what a healthy energy body is and how to connect to your grounding, set boundaries, connect to vital source energy and empower yourself from the inside out.

The result?

You’ll feel empowered, energized and purposeful!

My mission is to offer classes and support so as to empower you in your own inner healing and transformation and my dream is that you can master these skills yourself and create communities around you that support one another’s healing and growth.
